- sand the beading around windows etc before painting - these often have plaster on them left from the float
- paint metal beading with an oil based paint, such as undercoat, to seal the metal and stop any corrosion from forming
- if you haven't time to paint the ceilings and walls before other trades finish then at least paint the walls behind: skirting board, architrave, power points, light switches, lighting cable emerging from the ceilings etc. This will reduce the amount of masking/cutting in
