We generally build the partitions first and then place them in position and screw to the floor and ceiling. If the partitions are running at right angles to the ceiling joists (trusses) then screwing the head plate into the joists will be straightforward. If parallel, then noggins will have to be fixed at intervals between the 2 joists above, and the head plate screwed into these.
